Select Director of Coaches\Players Development - Mark Dombrowski

New Berlin Soccer Club (NBSC) today announced Mark Dombrowski as select director of coaching, a role that will see him lead the club’s select and recreational soccer program, including spearheading the newly formed MK Alliance, the club’s select program formed in partnership with the Southwest region of Milwaukee Kickers.

Dombrowski has served as director of coaching for the West Allis-based Parkland Soccer Club for 16 years and as Parkland’s president for the past 10 years. During the past two decades, Dombrowski’s teams typically have played in the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) Premier League. In 1996, he was named the Wisconsin Boys Coach of the Year.

Dombrowski’s Parkland teams distinguished themselves on several occasions, including two State Cup championships, seven berths in the State Cup finals and many Premier League championships. In addition, numerous Parkland players developed under Dombrowski’s tutelage have played at the professional and at Division 1 college levels.

A resident of Hales Corners, Dombrowski has dedicated the past two decades to developing a high-level soccer program in Milwaukee’s southern suburbs—a quest he plans to continue pursuing at NBSC.

“I’ve had opportunities to go elsewhere, but they’ve always required long commutes that would take me away from my family,” he said. “Because New Berlin is so close to my home, this is a good fit.”

Although his teams have competed at the highest levels of Wisconsin youth soccer, Dombrowski takes pride in the fact that he never cut a player while with Parkland. Dombrowski said he was attracted to his new position largely because NBSC/MK Alliance offers opportunities for players at a variety of levels, from state-league play to lower-level select leagues and recreational offerings.

“I’ve always felt there should be a place for every player that wants to play and is willing to put in the work,” he said.

After Jimmy Banks resigned as NBSC’s director of coaching in November to focus more time on his job as soccer coach for the Milwaukee School of Engineering, the NBSC board reassessed the structure of the club’s programs and coaching staff. Instead of having a single director of coaching, the board opted to establish two positions—a director of the competitive/select program and a director for the youth/recreational program.

“We believe the new structure will be beneficial to all of our players—competitive and youth,” said Melanie Gretzon, NBSC president. “We’re excited that Mark Dombrowski is joining the club to lead us in this new direction. His experience and personality should be invaluable as the club progresses.”

As select director of coaching, Dombrowski will work with Southwest region director of coaching Aleks Nikolic to lead the MK Alliance competitive select program that debuted in the fall and NBSC’s high-school select program. Dombrowski also is charged with providing the overall development vision for the NBSC program, including hiring the youth/recreational director of coaching—a new position in the club—subject to the approval of the NBSC board.

Given his lengthy tenure at Parkland, Dombrowski’s decision to pursue the NBSC post was not something he did lightly. Recognizing this, the NBSC board has agreed to allow Dombrowski to fulfill his commitments to Parkland for the remainder of this winter and the spring outdoor season. During this transition period, Dombrowski will visit NBSC/MK Alliance teams’ practices and games to familiarize himself with the club’s players, coaches and programs. Dombrowski’s role with NBSC/MK Alliance will increase throughout the spring season, and he will lead the club’s select tryouts beginning in June.
