Coaches are responsible for on-field organization of the team, player training, and player conduct and safety.
Obtain Coaching License. Beginning in August 2001, the state soccer association is requiring all coaches (rec and select) to have a "G" license. This consists of a three hour training session. This clinic is free of charge and will fulfill the G licensing requirement. Please contact the Director of Coaching to help find a clinic.
Attend Pre-Season Coaches Meeting.
Promote Good Sportsmanship. Players, parents and coaches should all respect their team mates, opponents, and referees. As coach, you are the lead example, and should monitor.
Ensure Player Safety. Injuries will occur during the course of a soccer season. However, the coach should take steps to avoid unnecessary and/or serious injuries by eliminating excessive rough play during practice and games. Also, hanging on goals by any player at any age is strictly forbidden.
Do Not Leave Young Players Unsupervised. There must be at least two adults present at all practices and games. In no case, should a coach leave a young player alone at a field.
Attend Skills Sessions. Each team will be assigned a time for special skills training, usually two to three nights per season. These sessions are critical to improvement of the player skills, and are also designed to involve and train the coaches. These sessions can take the place of one of the practices in a given week.
Have Fun. The more fun you have, the more fun the kids will have. Time with family is short, enjoy it while you can.
