Welcome to the inaugural season for the New Berlin Torpedoes. We sure are off to a great start with muddy practices, cold practices, you name it. We even broke through with a win in our very first game, a sure sign of great things to come.
I’ll be working to get the team website up and running over the next couple weeks. Please send ideas and pictures.
Let’s have a great season!!
Led by Ryan with two goals, the Torpedoes displayed a balanced attack with four different players scoring in a 5-1 win over the SW Golden Eagles. In a return to Uihlein Soccer Park, rather than the frigid pouring rain and 40 mph wind, the team played in their first warm weather game of the season. While the kids looked a bit tired at times, the game was never in doubt as they held the ball in the scoring zone for most of the game.
The Torpedoes battled the elements once again, fighting their way to a 2-2 tie against the Muskego Gators. Highlighted by outstanding ball control and aggressiveness from Austin, the Torpedoes outplayed their opponent in everything except the scoreboard. After a game-tying goal by Adam (from the GK position), the Torpedoes were relentless, firing shot after shot but just could not connect with the winning goal. The field spacing, ball control, and passing are coming together though with more wins on the horizon.
Making their first tournament appearance, the Torpedoes came away with two wins and one loss – to a Hurricane of sorts. After an easy 12-1 victory over an over-matched SE Jaguars, the wind and the rain really picked up for Game 2 against the New Berlin Hurricanes. Facing a markedly better team for the first time this season, the Torpedoes kept it within one score for a little while, until the superior spacing and ball control of the Hurricanes took over. The Torpedoes kept playing hard though in taking their first loss of the season 8-1.
In their final game on Sunday, the Torpedoes faced the Tosa Rebels. With the rains cleared, the Torpedoes showed their capabilities, beating the evenly matched Rebels 11-2, running their season record to 6-1.
